KARLEEN LEVEILLE HONORED BY HÄAGEN-DAZS


[NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 23, 2023] – Media personality and philanthropist Karleen Leveille has been recognized as one of the 50 remarkable #WomenWhoDontHoldBack by Häagen-Dazs, as part of 'The Rose Project.' The initiative pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of Rose Mattus, a trailblazer in business and marketing whose innovative approach transformed Häagen-Dazs into a renowned brand during the 1960s.


The Häagen-Dazs #WomenWhoDontHoldBack initiative celebrates strong, ambitious women who, like Rose Mattus, have broken barriers and left an indelible mark on their respective fields. It recognizes the power of women who fearlessly pursue their dreams and make a difference in the world.


Karleen Leveille's selection for this prestigious accolade marks a significant moment in her career. Known for her contributions to the media industry and her philanthropic endeavors, Karleen Leveille expressed her deep admiration for Häagen-Dazs, saying, "I have always admired, and probably devoured, more pints of Häagen-Dazs ice cream than I should admit! So, to learn that the key ingredient to its success was a brilliant and ambitious woman makes this accolade even sweeter. In addition to the nomination, 50 women including Karleen Leveille, are shortlisted to win one of five monetary grants of $20,000, enabling these Rose Project honorees to continue their exceptional work, unleash their potential, or give to a cause they're passionate about.

A marketing pioneer of the time, she built an unprecedented fan base for the brand without spending any advertising dollars through sampling and building word-of-mouth in high-end establishments and trendy neighborhoods of Manhattan. Rose with their daughter Doris opened the first Häagen-Dazs Shop in Brooklyn in 1976 and then grew a Shops franchising network that expanded the business nationally. They were eventually recognized with an 'Outstanding Entrepreneur' award by the National Association of Women Business Owners. Rose, a real partner to her inventor husband, made Häagen-Dazs into the famous brand we know and love today.
