Karleen Leveille Lands Interview with Senator Elaine Phillips

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

Karleen Leveille interviewed Senator Elaine Phillips at the “Avenue of Opportunities” career event held at Belmont Park on April 12th. The “Avenue of Opportunities,” event shared pathways to successful careers for women on Long Island. The free program provided an opportunity for women to learn from and connect with women leaders in Healthcare, Manufacturing, Energy/Utilities, Building Trades, Child Care and more. The networking event also allowed attendees to meet with major employers and organizations offering interviewing, resume writing training and educational support.

Leveille, Host of “Did You Know,” a Long Island historical television series and Reporter at large was on hand to cover the event and interview Senator Phillips. “Interviewing Senator Phillips was one of the highlights of my reporting. She consistently breaks barriers and redefines her role as a leader. Plus she has a black belt which I am certain has been helpful to her in defeating oppressive laws and protecting citizen’s rights especially for children and women. I have learned a lot from her during our interview and look forward to crossing paths with her again.”

Senator Elaine Phillips is serving her first term representing the Seventh Senate District. Prior to joining the Senate, Elaine served as the Mayor of the Village of Flower Hill adopting a multi-year strategic plan. In the Senate, Elaine has worked in a bipartisan manner to deliver tax relief, fiscal responsibility and a fair share of state aid for local schools and municipalities to help reduce the burden on hardworking Long Island families, just as she did as Mayor. Before her public service, Elaine worked for over 20 years in the financial services sector as a financial analyst for Met Life and JP Morgan Securities and later as a Vice President in Institutional Sales at Goldman Sachs. Elaine is a graduate of Penn State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree and a MBA in Finance. She was the first from her family to attend college.

An air date for the interview and coverage has not been determined.
